RDP Frame Rate Limitation on M1 MacBook Air Running Windows App
Dear Microsoft Support Team,
I am writing to report an issue with the Windows app for Mac, specifically regarding the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) frame rate limitation. Here are the details of my setup and the problem I'm experiencing:
Hardware:
- Client: MacBook Air (2020), M1 chip, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
- Server: Windows 11 Pro, Version 22H2
Issue:
When using the built-in RDP client on my M1 MacBook Air to connect to a Windows 11 Pro (22H2) system, the frame rate is limited to around 32 fps. I have attempted to increase this to 60 fps, but have been unsuccessful.
Steps taken:
- Modified the DWMFRAMEINTERVAL registry value to 15 (hexadecimal) on the Windows 11 host.
- Tested the frame rate using the UFO test website on the MacBook Air.
Result:
Despite the modifications, the frame rate remains locked at approximately 30 fps.
Questions:
- Is there a frame rate lock implemented on the Mac client side of the Windows app?
- If so, is there a way to disable this limitation to achieve 60 fps?
- Are there any known issues or limitations with RDP performance on M1 Macs?
I can confirm that my network bandwidth and the Windows 11 host are not the bottleneck in this situation. The limitation appears to be on the client side (MacBook Air).
Your assistance in resolving this issue or providing further information would be greatly appreciated. If you need any additional details or diagnostic information, please let me know.
Thank you for your time and support.
