Remote computers cannot access internal computers via RD Gateway server.

I just installed a new Win 2022 STD with RD gateway role (broker and gateway) configured, added SSL but can't connect to a target computer through the gateway. I can connect from another device on the local network. I start the RDC (remote desktop client) and it is setup correctly with gateway address, target name and usename and password. It prompts me for the password, thinks then prompts again but no real error message. Just Please try again. Over and over no success. I can see it trying to connect via eventviewer. We have a logon banner and the banner appears, so I know it connecting to it. If i disable connections to the gateway I get a message that connections not allowed. So I am pretty sure firewall, ssl, and connection to the Gateway server are working, it just doesn't pass the traffice to the target device. I have also tried different targets.
