Change in People Picker logic for Site Owner

Hi,
I want to ask if there is a change in the logic of People picker for Site Owner.
As I read from the Microsoft documents, the logic was allowing Site Owner of Communication site to be Security Group, Mail-enabled Security group, and Microsoft 365 group.

But seems like when I tested it out, those groups can no longer be selected as Site owner in the Creation page. However, we can add those groups as Owner later, after the creation is finished.
Is there any change behind this ? Or is this a bug ?

    Hi @Benedict Luu,

    I have the same situation in my environment as per my test. I am not sure this is an expected behavior or a bug because I didn't find any official MS article which explains this. I would suggest you directly contact Microsoft if you want to figure it out.

    Personally, I completely agree with you. Since adding groups as site owners is allowed in SharePoint Online, they should be able to be designated as site owners when creating a site. Thank you for bringing things to our attention.
