Originally had windows 10 with non-functioning search bar out of the blue. Can type but it fails to find any installed programs - instead tries to show me web results only.

I have restarted windows explorer, doesn't work.

Restart windows search, doesn't work

Reset windows search, doesn't work

Tried cmd functions, doesn't work

Tried index troubleshooter, doesn't work

Upgraded to windows 11, made it worse as it now cannot find anything matching including web search

What can I do at this point without having to install and use Everything? I'd rather have a functioning OS alternative.

    Hello,

    Have you checked the Group Policy settings for Search?

    User's image

    Here are the dev Blogs on Search, there is a lot of detailed information in them, som eof which may be useful in tracking down or resetting Search.

    https://devblogs.microsoft.com/windows-search-platform/

    You may want to check the search database files.

    By default, Windows.edb or Windows.db is located in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows folder.

    You can delete them, but stop the Windows Search Service first.

    You can use Computer Management( right click start and choose Computer Management;

    The startup type should be automatic.

    Thanks
