In the following issue, the author provides a solution for the problem where OneDrive cannot handle merging changes in Office files:

The author's final solution is:

Simply right-click the OneDrive icon, select Settings, then go to the Office tab, and uncheck the box "Use Office to sync Office files." This will stop that frustrating Upload Center from interfering.

Unfortunately, I am facing the same issue now—whenever I modify an Office file within the OneDrive sync folder, it shows the message "Unable to merge changes in Office file." What’s worse, due to changes in the OneDrive version, the method mentioned in the original post no longer works, as there is no longer an "Office" tab in OneDrive settings.

OneDrive version: Build 24.181.0908.0001 (64-bit)

Office version: Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2019
