We currently have build the whole system around a Azure Cosmos DB for MongoDB (vCore). as our customer do have more data privacy concerns, we're thinking about to change the hosting from west europe to Switzerland. But it seems to be not available in Switzerland.

Are there better options than 1) moving to another service (other than Azure) which is hosted in Switzerland or 2) rethink the customer concerns regarding data privacy and hosting in Switzerland?

Thanks, Andi

    @Andi Michel
    Thank you for the question and for using Microsoft Q&A platform. Here are a few options you might consider:

    1. Azure Cosmos DB Global Distribution: While Azure Cosmos DB for MongoDB (vCore) might not be directly available in Switzerland, you can leverage Azure’s global distribution capabilities. This allows you to replicate your data to multiple regions, including nearby regions that might meet your data residency requirements. This way, you can ensure low-latency access and compliance with data privacy regulations.

    1. Alternative Azure Services: If Azure Cosmos DB for MongoDB specifically isn’t available, you might explore other Azure services that are hosted in Switzerland. For instance, Azure SQL Database or Azure Database for PostgreSQL could be viable alternatives depending on your application’s requirements.
    2. If hosting in Switzerland is a strict requirement for your customers, you can consider using a different cloud provider that offers hosting in Switzerland. However, this would require you to migrate your entire application to a different cloud provider, which may not be feasible depending on your resources and timeline.

    Hope this helps. Do let us know if you have any further queries.
