Storage Migration Service renamed domain user accounts

Storage Migration Service renamed testuser to testuserpbu816ofu. Storage Migration Service renamed testuserpbu816ofu to testuserapbmyf2xi89rg

This shows in the user description of their active directory account (when I look at the properties of the user account).
When I look at the account tab (under the properties of their user account), the user login name remains the same: testuser.
The "user logon name (pre-Windows 2000) is what changed to testuserapbmyf2xi89rg.

The user is unable to login just using domain_name\testuser.
They can log in via domain_name\testuserapbmyf2xi89rg (I've been changing them just testuser2)
This didn't happen to all users, but only a handful.

I should note: I did not cut-over using storage migration services. I'm only using it to transfer data (and in this case, I was only doing this with a small folder on the source to destination - not a full server migration).

Does anyone know why SMS would be renaming the pre-2000 user accounts? I didn't think SMS would be doing anything with user accounts unless I was cutting over a server.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    I found a 1/2 solution here:
    https://video2.skills-academy.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/storage-migration-service/known-issues#data-does-not-transfer-user-renamed-when-migrating-to-or-from-a-domain-controller

That lead me to the Active Directory Users and Computers - to the USERS section. There, I saw all the jumbled accounts SMS made: testuser4x8567xjtu and testuserzy49xnb719bpq and like 3 more. But it also had just test user. I delete them all. Went to my OU where I had the real users. I was able to correctly rename their pre-windows 200 account to what it was before (since the users still log into their computer domain_name\username) (instead of username@keyman _name).
