how to restrict google from indexing azureedge.net subdomain

Hello,

how can I stop google from indexing mydomain.azureedge.net content, we have the website from last two years but just recently we find out google has started to index all the urls on the subdomain website, and most of them has already started ranking. we have been using this subdomain cdn for all our assests. so not sure what made google to start indexing all the main urls all of a sudden.

If someone know any way to stop google from indexing our website, that would be helpful.

You can Prevent Azure Default Domains being Indexed in Search Engines

Method 1 - Block access to azure default domain
Method 2 - Prevent Search Engines from indexing the Azure Default Domain

@SUNOJ KUMAR YELURU hey mate, thanks for answering. but we are not using webapps, i came across your article as well, although it is very informational, but not helpful in our case. as we ar eusing it for cdn. and the subdomain which is getting indexed is "mydomain.azureedge.net"

if you can think of anyhting in this case, that will be helpful.

the methods you have mentioned - are you saying to block them in robots.txt file?

@olufemia-MSFT Thanks mate, something helpful. we do have canonical setup for cdn subdomain but atm it is self refrencing, i mean mywebsite.azureedge.net canonical points to itself and mywebsite.com point to the mywebsite.com. But we need to alter subdomain canonical to point it to mywebsite.com, is that what it means?

Thanks @olufemia-MSFT , will try it out and see how it goes. applied robots.txt rule last week, so it has stopped from indexing new urls onto search but the indexed urls stilll exists.

@Ankur , can confirm that you should point the canonical on http://mywebsite.azureedge.net/ at http://mywebsite.com/ if http://mywebsite.com/ is the version you want indexed.

Google uses canonicals as a directive, rather than a rule. To be extra safe you might want to add a noindex meta tag or HTTP header to http://mywebsite.azureedge.net/.

Also, those links must have come from somewhere, so run a crawl of http://mywebsite.com/ and check for any outgoing links to http://mywebsite.azureedge.net/
