Is there a way to remove underlining from hyperlinks in Microsoft Word/Outlook without losing the link functionality?

I want to keep hyperlinks clickable but remove the default underline formatting for a cleaner design. I’ve tried:

  • Right-click > "Remove Hyperlink" (deletes the link entirely)

Manual formatting (underline reappears after saving/reopening)

Workarounds I’m exploring:

Style modifications (Modify the "Hyperlink" style in Word)

CSS tricks (for Outlook HTML emails)

Alternative tools like this Underline Text Generator for faux-underline effects

Environment:

Word 365 (Latest Version) / Outlook Desktop

Windows 11

Has Microsoft added a native toggle for this, or is there a permanent fix?

Modify the Hyperlink and FollowedHyperlink styles to NOT include underline formatting. This will apply to all links in the document (existing links as well as future ones that you create in the doc).

    Good day Jonathan,

You can easily remove the underline from hyperlinks in Microsoft Word and Outlook while keeping them clickable. Here’s suggestion:

    For Microsoft Word:

    • Select the hyperlink text
    • Press Ctrl + U or On the Home tab, in the Font group, click Underline

    User's image

    For Outlook:

    • Select the hyperlink text
    • Press Ctrl + U or On the Format Text tab, in the Font group, click Underline

    User's image

I'm here to assist however I can. If there's anything you'd like me to adjust or clarify, just let me know.
