I have just installed Windows Server Backup on 2008 R2 server and when loading it for the first time it fails with a fatal error.
Looking at events , i can see the "Block Level Engine Service" Stopped.

I have removed and reinstalled WSB --still same behaviour.

When manually restarting this , i get the prompt
Windows could not start the Block Level Engine Service on xxxxxxxxxx
"Error 0x80070288.The requested operation could not be completed due to a file size limitation"

VDS and VSS are both set to Manual

Using command net start wbengine --response below

The Block Level Backup Engine Service service is starting.
The Block Level Backup Engine Service service could not be started.

A system error has occurred.

System error 665 has occurred.

The requested operation could not be completed due to a file system limitation

No issue with space in regard to the disk drives

    Hi,
Please ensure your server is fully patched and turn off or uninstall any third-party software.
Please run vssadmin list writers and check if there is any error.
Please try the following steps (source):

    1. Block Level Backup Service was set from Manual to Automatic
    2. Remote Procedure Call (RPC) was set from Manual to Automatic
    3. RPC Endpoint Mapper was set from Manual to Automatic
    4. Windows Backup was set from Manual to Automatic
    5. Virtual disk and Volume shadow copy service were set from Manual to Automatic
    6. Services.msc >properties page of Block Level Backup Service Engine
      Changed to Log On tab
Instead of Log On as Local System Account changed to Log On as admin@keyman .local (select the account with admin creds), entered the
password of admin and closed the properties page.
Now restart the Block Level Backup Service Engine and re-run the job.

    Thanks for your time!
    Best Regards,
    Mico Mi

    Hi Mico,

Due to company policy restraints, i cannot run admin@keyman .local (select the account with admin creds) and restart the service.

What i did notice though is the in the snapshot

Cannot see any issues with the disks

    Thanks Mico ,
Had a look and they really did not help me.

I've looking further myself as to why it is stopping and i see the below

    61919-image.png

If the service was started successfully, the WIN32_EXIT_CODE field should contain a zero (0). If the service failed to start when an attempt was made, this field should contain an exit code provided by the service when it could not start.

I believe i need to use the net helpmsg exit code command ( where there should be a 4 digit number which i cannot see)

    From my research

So really need to find out what this exit code means.

Many thanks for your assistance to date
