Email to Sharepoint Site from Outlook for Mac 2016

2021-01-29T11:00:02.92+00:00

Windows Outlook users can email the Sharepoint site to deposit files. Mac Outlook users get undeliverable errors. No issues with Outlook OWA.

  • Checked the permissions, no issues
  • Verified the email address, no issues
  • Was able to send the email using Outlook OWA (no issues with attachment or message size)
  • Does Outlook for Mac 2016 support the stssync protocol needed?
  • Why does it not work? (technical explication if possible)

Undeliverable message from Sharepoint Server:
Remote Server returned '554 5.0.0 <[IP address] #5.0.0 smtp; 5.1.0 - Unknown address error 552-'5.3.4 Message
size exceeds fixed maximum message size' (delivery attempts: 0)>

Office for Mac 2016 version 16.45 (21011103)

SharePoint On Prem (SP2016)

We are using OWA as a workaround. Would like to know if emailing from Outlook for Mac 2016 to the Sharepoint is possible. If not possible, would like to know why (I have to notify the Sharepoint admins).

Thanks

C.H.V

    Hi @Hernandez-Velez, Charlotte (NIH/NCI) [C] ,

    Welcome.

I tried some research about your issue but have only found limited information yet. Just as this article mentioned, the stssync protocol is not supported on Mac. (Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.)

The reason it works perfectly in Windows is because the ActiveX controls and stssync protocol that provide this feature are supported only in Windows and not on Mac's.

Guess it might be related to the causes of your issue? I would try more tests and search about that. Any updates, I would post back here.
