Access for latest Teams Client

2020-05-06T15:19:52.247+00:00

I have downloaded the latest Teams client for Linuxs per the instructions, however after logging in with my user information I cannot get in. I get a message stating that access is restricted and then a notification that Microsoft is still developing Teams for Linux. There is a button that I can click that says "I'm Interested in using Teams" that when I click takes me to a closed discussion where I cannot request access. I had the Teams client for Linux running on another computer early last week, however on three other machines I am getting (repeatedly, I have tried at least ten times on these three machines) the notification that I mentioned above. I would like access to use the client, but I do not have time to try a bunch of troubleshooting. I have the latest version. Please help.

    @Noonan, John D CIV USARMY CHRA-NC (USA)

I now suspect that this is an issue with USG e-mail accounts for the following reasons:

    1. My IT department stated that they do not provide support to the desktop client on personal computers (regardless of OS)
    2. When in the office, we have a nerfed version of the desktop client (calls have been disabled)
    3. I tried logging in on a Windows 10 machine and got an error message along the lines of "your login information is correct, but your Admins do not allow you access to this resource/app."

    Counterarguments to this theory are:

    1. The error message is different, and comes at a different time in the login process (in Linux I appear to get through to the client, whereas in Windows the error comes before the client launches, at the Microsoft login page)
    2. A few of us were able use the Linux client for a limited time before it started throwing the error, but on different timelines.

Just some things to think about. For what it's worth, the "unofficial" Linux app (essentially the web version repackaged) works OK for me. At least, it's marginally better than the browser version through the telework apps for my department/agency.

    Hi NoonanJohnDCIVUSARMYCHRANCUSA-4541,

Could you log in teams web app normally?

    What is your Linux OS?

The supported OS is listed as below:

    1. Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
    2. Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
    3. Fedora 30 Workstation
    4. RHEL 8 Workstation
    5. CentOS 8

The latest teams for Linux client version is 1.3.00.5153.

You can just follow the commands in this link to install the latest version: https://video2.skills-academy.com/en-us/microsoftteams/get-clients#linux.

I'm having the same message on both teams and teams-insider. This has happened every few months. Recently had my password changed and now I authenticate but get this same message. Browser version works fine. I've held off making a forum profile just for this but being a reoccurring issue obviously need more people to complain to get this resolved.
