Hi All,

We are trying to do test migration from an on-premises sql server (2017STD) to a Azure SQL Database.

Steps Taken So far

  1. Installed DMA on a on-premises local machine, ran the schema migrate option for the local DB. Resolved the issues reported and then did a schema migration to the Azure SQL Database without issue.
  2. Then ran the onsite DMA and did a Data migration using the same source local DB and destination Azure DB as was used in the Schema migration and it worked fine.
  3. Then performed the same schema migration as outlined in step1 to an newly created DB in Azure and again was successful.
  4. We then used DMS to migrate Data only from the same source local DB to the DB used in step three. But it doesn't work, we have tried a few times, but always get 'Failed input validation'

Does anyone know what this Error relates to?
Why can we do a Data migration using the DMA but not the DMS?

Any ideas?

Thanks
Darren

HI, We opened a call on this and it seems the issue is in relation to different collation on the source and destination DB's. DBA is going to look at another method for migration process.

    Thanks for all the help

    Regards

    Darren
