@Jack Was able to resolve this issue by uninstalling the MARS agent and install it again.
Please help! MARSAgentInstaller fails and exits with error ID: 116

I have been trying to get a system state and files/folders backup of my windows server 2012 R2 but the MARSAgentInstaller.exe fails. My server, agent installer, and vault credentials files are all up to date. I also made a rule in my firewall to allow all connections for the MARSAgentInstaller but that didnt change anything. I cant seem to figure out what's causing the error and I've been trying for 3 days now. In the screenshots you can see the error, then after clicking ok the second windows pops up saying "Error starting the Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent Setup Wizard"

Ensure all pre-requisites are met - https://video2.skills-academy.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-support-matrix-mars-agent#support-for-direct-backups
Ensure the MARS agent is up to date. The current version is 2.0.9207.0, you can download it from Azure portal > recovery services vault > Your vault properties > Recovery services agent > Download
If problem persist post updating the agent, reboot the machine and then try.

In order to troubleshoot this issue, there are number of steps that we need to perform, couple of them we have already tried, (pre-requisite and updating agent) and further logs investigation is required to understand the scenario type to troubleshoot the issue. That being said, you need to contact Azure backup technical support team to assist you in resolve this issue.

Ignacio Aguirre Panadero 0 Reputation points2024-06-11T13:59:32.08+00:00 For me the issue got resolved after starting service Windows Update (Service Name: wuauserv) which was stopped. I was also getting same error whet tried to installed MarsAgent on win2022 server. I tried many articles but no luck. When I selected installed with window updates it shown me error for window update service. So I checked Windows update service found it was in disabled state, hence I set startup type automatic and started service then tried.
