Disk Light Continually On

Hello:
I just recovered from a power outage and had to restore WHS 2011 from a year-old backup. I only restored the C drive, not the D that contained all my backups.
Everything seems to be OK, and all my previous backups were there.

Unfortunately, the disk active light has been on continually for over a day. I can't tell why there is so much activity on the drive (I have a single hard drive that shares the C and D logical drives.)

How can I tell what is happening? I took it to a computer store that knows Server 2008 R2 and they showed me that the disk was continually being active.

The only change I made was to discontinue using the automatic daily backup. I want to back up manually so that the automatic doesn't interfere with my work.

Ideas?

Thanks,
Rich Locus

Has it stopped yet? I vaguely remember having see this years ago and it wasn’t actually a problem - just OS activity checking something! Which process is causing the disk activity?

    Phil:
I checked the task manager and idle was 99%. I took the machine into a shop because it dropped due to an outage (and my UPS backup failed). As soon as I got it back, that is when the problem started. I'm going to give it more time, but if it stays on, it's back to the computer place to see if they plugged in the connectors for the disk sensor in the wrong place, or possibly reversed the polarity. Thanks for the tip.
    Regards,
    Rich

    HI RichLocus-0717,

If it is possible, we can try to do hard disk diagnosis or check whether the disk hardware detection sensor is operating normally?

You may need to insert Hardware check diagnostic PCI card on your server motherboard. I think you need server hardware engineer's help.

    Thanks JiaYou:
I am taking it into a shop to evaluate the hardware.
