Unable to connect to host after creating virtual machine on windows10

Hi. I have created a new, virtual machine on a windows 10 workstation. The VM has been given its own IP. I can RDP to the VM with no issues, however I can no longer RDP to the windows 10 host. I work remotely so this is a big problem. Any ideas as to what happened? I was able to rdp to the host with no issues previously. The new VM does have an internal virtual switch, set for external, bound to the NIC of the host. I can't ping it either, it has lost connectivity with our network, even though the VM is fine.

Thanks in advance!
Sharyn

    Hi,

To trouble-shoot this problem, let's start from the basic. Here's the understanding from the description (if there is any misunderstanding, please kindly correct me.)

    (1) in win10, we have a wired NIC
    (2) after installing hyper-v, we created an "external" virtual switch, "New Virtual Switch" in this example
    (3) the virtual machine is connected to this virtual switch
    (4) we can ping the vm, but not the host

Here's some information we'd like to collect
    (1) for testing purpose, can we turn off windows firewall temporarily?
    (2) with firewall turned off, can host ping vm or vice visa (if fail, screenshots preferred)

some screenshots, just for your reference
