other options for online Migration using DMS

I have 200 database and I want to migrate it from on-premises to Azure SQL with continuous sync. what are the other option I can follow to get this sync as Online Migration From DMS is no longer supported.

Hi @Shubhi Jain , welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

As you rightly mentioned that online migration is no more supported for Azure SQL Database however it is still supported for Azure SQL Managed Instance.

For Azure SQL Database, for continuous migration you can use Transaction Replication. It provides a continuous replication option to migrate data (without taking the databases offline). You can refer to below screenshot for more details and limitation on using it:

Also, please check many other ways to migrate the on-premise database to Azure SQL but I would suggest you to read through the consideration carefully and choose accordingly. Below is the link of reference on it:

We have a requirement to migrate approximately 200 databases of variant sizes where most of the database is 100GB each, 1 is 451GB and 1 is 200GB to Azure SQL Database (elastic pool) from On-premises SQL server. Can we migrate all 200 databases in single migration window and what are the steps and the prerequisite? If no, the how we can achieve this in phases?

The article that I referenced in my last comment has multiple ways of migration. For them we need to create configuration one at a time and then can start migration but this looks an issue as you have 200 databases.

Another way is to write some code/script to export all these databases and import them one by one. There is one good article which exports the bacpac and then imports them to Azure SQL. Please check it once and let us know if this suits your requirements:

Hello @AnuragSharma-MSFT I am doing the same thing which you have sent me through the link i.e., sqlpackage.exe for migrating the database but is their nay way I can automate the command while importing the bacpac files to the Azure SQLDB as the databases are more than 200 .

Hi @Shubhi Jain , I just noticed there is another thread created by you which has a link of PowerShell script provided by @Cris Zhan-MSFT to achieve the same.

How to do multiple database backup and restore using sqlpackage.exe

Please let me know if this helps. Otherwise if you can use .NET code I can try to create a code sample there as well which can be used to export and import through the SQLPackage.exe.
