Does SharePoint Application Server Memory usage affects Word Automation Service?

Hi,

I have setup a 3-tier SharePoint Farm and it is running fine until recently where some of the workflows that does the conversion of docx to pdf encounters error. The occurrence of the error is totally random. I can run 5 workflows for pdf conversion and only 2-3 workflows will successfully convert the pdf.

I have already checked on my database and the error code in the Word Automation Service DB is either 6 or 9. I also noticed that my SharePoint Application Server's memory is also spiking to 80+%. The main tasks are 1) SharePoint Search Component, 2) SharePoint Timer Service, 3) IIS Worker Process

Is the memory spike causing the docx to pdf conversion fail intermittently? Any idea how can I lower the resource usage for SharePoint Search Component ?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Ray

    @Ray Kwok

    In my opinion, the conversion failure of docx to pdf may not be directly related to the memory spike.

    To troubleshoot the error code 6 in the Word Automation Service Database, you could refer following two articles.
    SharePoint Word Automation Service Not Working
    Word Automation Services Error Code 6

    To reduce the resource usage for SharePoint Search component, you could check the crawl schedule and limit NodeRunner.exe.
