Azure Backup of S2d VMs in Admin Center

We have a 3-node S2D cluster on Windows Server 2019 that hosts all of our Windows VMs. I'd like to use Azure Backup to backup certain VMs using Windows Admin Center.

So far I can only find out how to backup the individual hosts with Azure Backup and not individual VMs. Is this possible to setup using just Windows Admin Center?

I see a way to setup individual VMs for Site Recovery (which I am not interested in) but no way to backup VMs to Azure. Thanks for your help.

@Rahul Sukumar Assuming you are referring to on-prem virtual machines, DPM or MABS doesn’t have integration with WAC yet.

But you can certainly use MABS or DPM to backup VMs stored on S2D cluster as Hyper-V VM.

    Hi,

The integration of Azure Backup in the Windows Admin Center can currently back up volumes and the Windows System state on-premises Windows physical or virtual servers.

    Best regards,
    Leon

Thanks for the reply. I can figure out how to backup volumes and system state on the physical hosts, but I don't see a way to backup virtual servers. Can you provide me some help on how VMs can be backed up?

For instance, if I select an individual VM, there is no options to connect it to Azure Backup. I only get this option when selecting an physical node. I'm running the latest (2007) version of Admin Center.

Is it possible I will need to setup an Azure Backup Server on-premise to allow backups of VMs to Azure? The documentation is not very clear.

@Rahul Sukumar Yes, you are right. :)
Using MABS you can backup to cloud and using ASR you will be replicating your workloads to Azure. For failover you will be leveraging ASR.
