Open emails in new outlook in a new window

In the old Outlook, I could click on an email and it would open in another window. This way I could have multiple emails open at once and switch between them as-needed. New Outlook makes me go through three clicks to get this. I have the action set for replies and new messages to be in separate windows, but I want/need emails that I click on to open in a separate window. I've seen threads from 2023 and 2024 with no resolution on this, so hoping that re-asking will (maybe) shake lose an answer.

    Hey there!

Nice to meet you! I'm Randy, an Independent Advisor.

In the old Outlook, double-clicking an email opened it in a new window quick and easy. But in the new Outlook, it takes a few extra clicks, and there’s no built-in setting to change that right now.

You can still right-click the email and choose “Open in new window”. It’s not perfect, but it works. Also, try middle-clicking with your mouse wheel that opens emails in a new window for some people.

Another option: select the email and press Ctrl + O on your keyboard. That opens it like the old double-click used to.

Microsoft hasn’t added this feature back yet. They seem to be making Outlook feel more like the web version, which means some of the old features are missing.

    Best regards,
