From your description, it sounds like the mail merge fields may not have been inserted correctly into the first label before clicking “Update Labels.” If the first label contains static content (not merge fields), Word will replicate that static content across all labels.
Here's how to fix it:
- Insert your merge fields into the first label only
- Click Update Labels this should copy the fields to all labels
- Press Alt + F9 to view field codes
- Make sure each label (except the first) starts with «NextRecord»
- Preview Results → each label should now show a different record
- Finish & Merge → Edit Individual Documents
If the Avery 5392 template doesn’t behave correctly, you can recreate the layout manually using a 3x2 table and insert merge fields directly.
