It seems that is a result of change to Samsung's security. File Transfer setting is not persistent. However, I had to enter developer mode to manage it.
Why can't I access the /Internal storage/DCIM/Camera folder on my S24Ultra since 25H2 update?
I regularly maintain a backup / transfer of photos to my laptop, using a USB cable and Beyond Compare 5 (Scooter Software). The photos are on a Samsung S24 Ultra. I can see the phone under devices and drives but not the subfolders where all my files are.
I updated Windows 11 to 25H2 on October 18. I believe that is the only thing that has changed. Regular memory sticks work OK. Home Network drives are not visible but I can connect to them. No flags in Device Manager.
I am looking for a solution that I can implement immediately, that will allow me to transfer files with File Manager or Beyond Compare.

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
Based on the information you shared, the problem stems from a combination of the recent Windows 11 25H2 update and your phone's USB "Transferring files" setting not being persistent. For security, your phone defaults to "Charging only" every time it connects. Here is the solution you were looking for. This feature will change your phone's default setting to "Transferring files" permanently, so it connects in the correct mode every time.
On your S24 Ultra:
- Please enable developer options
- After that, set the Default USB Configuration:
- Go back to the main Settings menu.
- Scroll to the very bottom and tap on the new "Developer options" menu.
-
- Scroll down to the "Networking" section.
- Find and tap on "Default USB configuration"
-
- Change the setting to "Transferring files".
-
After doing this, unplug your phone and plug it back into your laptop. It should now automatically connect in the correct mode, and you will be able to see all your folders (like DCIM) in File Explorer and Beyond Compare.
If the steps above don't fully solve the problem, the issue may be a faulty driver on your PC. Here are the next two steps to try:
Please force-Reinstall the Windows MTP Driver:
- Connect your phone to your PC.
- On your PC, right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Look for your phone. It might be under "Portable Devices" (as "S24 Ultra") or "Other devices" (it might have a yellow warning icon).
- Right-click on your phone's name and select "Update driver".
- Click on "Browse my computer for drivers" > "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer".
- Select "MTP USB Device" from the list and click Next.
Try install the Official Samsung Driver:
- Disconnect your phone from the PC.
- Download the "Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones" directly from the official Samsung developer website. You can access via Samsung Android USB Driver | Samsung Developer
- Run the installer on your PC and restart it.
- Connect your phone again.
