How to fix bug in OneDrive android app that's causing files to become corrupted or damaging immediately after renaming the files I'm the app

In the app on my android phone, when I try to rename a file whether it be a PDF file or screenshot or whatever, the file will become corrupted or something and I can't open it and it won't rename the file. it'll just create a duplicate and I am unable to open either of them. I can rename files via my pc through a browser but not via the app. I noticed this happening today. this was not an issue on Friday 10/31. when I attempt to rename the file inside the app and try to open it again it'll say "the name of the file... might have been moved or deleted or you might not have permission to edit it" again this does not happen via the browser only in the app. I've tried it on my Chromebook as well via the app and it's creating the same issue. I'm thinking it's a bug or something. Any ideas?? Thanks

Hi Brandon G, I can see how frustrating it must be to run into a bug like this especially when something as simple as renaming a file ends up breaking it.

To avoid file corruption in the OneDrive Android app do not rename files using the app until Microsoft releases a fix instead use the OneDrive web version on your PC or Chromebook or the desktop app on Windows or macOS to manage files safely renaming files through onedrive live com works without issue and is the safest workaround for now you can also report the bug by opening the OneDrive app tapping your profile selecting Help and Feedback and choosing Report a Problem some users have had partial success by clearing the app’s cache and storage through Android settings then reinstalling the app from the Play Store finally monitor Microsoft’s support page for updates or hotfixes related to this issue.

When you rename a file in the app and it becomes corrupted or duplicated. does this happen immediately or only after the app syncs with the cloud or refreshes?

    Best regards

For Microsoft to release a fix, they first need to see a bug. I was unable to repro. Can you create a video and show the issue?

Boa noite, estou com o mesmo problema, não esta movendo e ao renomear algum arquivo, o mesmo se corrompe.

I am having the same issue renaming files is not working in the android app. I renamed 2 files which ended up as corrupt versions of the file that can't be opened, moved, renamed or interacted with in any form. Reinstalling the app cleared the failed renames, but trying to rename again kept failing. In one of the instances, the rename failed and I kept the original file. The other time, the original file disappeared.

Trying this operation on my pc yielded no issues.
