Forgotten UEFI Password on Surface Pro 7 – Seeking Help After Exhaustive Recovery Attempts

Hello everyone,

I’m reaching out after a long and emotionally exhausting journey trying to recover a forgotten UEFI (BIOS) password on my Surface Pro 7. I’m the global administrator of my Microsoft Entra tenant and have deep technical experience in device provisioning, secure configuration, and diagnostic analysis.

This device holds immense personal and technical value for me. I’ve documented every phase of troubleshooting, including:

  • Multiple failed recovery attempts using official Microsoft tools
  • USB boot preparation and verification
  • Analysis of UEFI variables and diagnostic files (ETL, ZIP)
  • Archiving every step for emotional closure and future reference

I’ve tried querying UEFI variables, decoding traces, and even simulating forced errors to understand the firmware behavior. Despite all efforts, the password remains unrecoverable, and Microsoft support has not provided a viable solution.

I’m not looking for illegal bypass methods—I’m seeking any legitimate insight, overlooked recovery paths, or vendor-specific guidance that could help me unlock or reset the UEFI password without replacing the motherboard.

If anyone has experience with Surface firmware recovery, custom provisioning packages, or advanced diagnostic workflows, your help would mean a lot.

Thank you for reading. This is more than a technical issue—it's part of my digital legacy, and I’m determined to find closure.

Your only option is an out of warranty exchange. Microsoft has done this in similar situations. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forgot-uefi-password-for-surface-e44d979a-7d85-4108-98d0-6bce7d421046 explains that MS won't be able to reset the password. To start an out of warranty exchange:

"At account.microsoft.com/devices, you can get service for your Surface, Surface accessory, Xbox, or Xbox accessory. Here's how:

Note: Warranty service may be available only in the country where you purchased the Surface device. If warranty service is unavailable to you in the country where the device is located when warranty service is requested, Microsoft may offer you other support options for an additional charge.

Sign in to Microsoft account | Select device for service.

    1. Choose the device that needs service, select Next and then follow the instructions to complete your service request. "
