Can't log into windows - only in airplane mode and says "error in pin setup". When I try to reset pc in the recovery environment, it tells me there was a problem resetting the pc. When I try Startup repair, it tells me that Startup Repair couldn't repair your Pc. If anyone has any advice on what to do, that would be great. Thanks! https://imgur.com/a/J7t5DEt

It sounds like you're experiencing multiple issues with logging into Windows and setting up your PIN. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issues:

    1. Check Network Connection: Since you mentioned being in airplane mode, ensure that your device is connected to the internet. You may need to disable airplane mode to access network services.
    2. Sign Out and Sign In Again: If you encounter an error during PIN setup, try signing out and then signing back in to see if that resolves the issue.
    3. Reset Your PIN: If you can access the sign-in options, try resetting your PIN. You can do this by selecting "I forgot my PIN" and following the prompts.
    4. Use Alternate Sign-In Methods: If you have other sign-in options available (like a password or security key), try using those to log in.
    5. Recovery Environment: Since you mentioned issues with resetting the PC and startup repair, you might want to try accessing the recovery environment again. If you can get to the recovery options, you can try using the command prompt to run commands like sfc /scannow or chkdsk to repair system files.
    6. Contact Microsoft Support: If none of the above steps work, it may be best to contact Microsoft Support for further assistance, especially if the error codes you encounter are not listed in the troubleshooting documentation.

These steps should help you troubleshoot the login and PIN setup issues you're facing.

    Hi There,

This usually points to a Windows Hello PIN corruption or a TPM (Trusted Platform Module) sync issue. Here’s what’s going on behind the scenes:

Your PIN is stored locally and tied to the TPM chip. If those files get damaged, Windows can’t validate your PIN.

Sometimes, after updates or system changes, the PIN setup breaks, and Windows falls back to Airplane Mode because network drivers or online verification fail.

When recovery tools like Startup Repair or Reset This PC fail, it often means system files or recovery partitions are corrupted.

So, the problem isn’t you it’s a combination of PIN data corruption and system recovery limitations.

Here are steps that usually help:

    Boot into Safe Mode

On the login screen, hold Shift and click Restart.

Go to Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Restart.

    Choose Safe Mode with Networking.

Once inside, go to Settings → Accounts → Sign-in Options and remove/re-add your PIN.

    Switch to Password Login

On the login screen, click Sign-in options and use your Microsoft account password or local account password.

If you forgot your password, reset it at account.live.com/password/reset from another device.

    Clear Corrupted PIN Data

Boot into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).

Open Command Prompt and delete the Ngc folder:

    del /F /Q /S C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC

Restart and set up a new PIN.

    Check BIOS Security Settings

Some users found toggling certain BIOS security options restored Wi-Fi and fixed PIN issues.

    Last Resort: Factory Reset

If nothing works, use Reset This PC → Remove Everything from WinRE. This reinstalls Windows but erases files.

This is a known issue caused by Windows Hello and TPM sync failures after updates, not by anything you did. Microsoft recommends Safe Mode or password login as the first workaround.
