How can I recover my Microsoft admin account? Here’s the situation:

  • I enabled 2FA for my admin account and was using Microsoft Authenticator phone.
  • I changed my phone and I did not set up a backup for the Authenticator app.
  • When I try to log in, it asks for a code from the Authenticator app, which I can’t provide since the app had reset on the new phone.
  • The only alternative is to get help from the organization admin—but that’s me, and I can’t access my account.

What are my options for recovery? I tried everything, but I keep been asked to sign in and then get verified with the Authenticator app which I do not have access to. I tried contacting microsoft (and have a Case-number) but after 5 days i am still waiting for Microsoft to contact me. What can i do??

    Hello michiel nicolai,

The issue pertains to a tenant lockout, where no other global admin in the tenant has the necessary permissions to re-register MFA.

To resolve this, we have engaged our Data Protection team through a support ticket. They will reach out to you via email or phone to help restore access to the tenant and assist in resolving the issue.

Once the issue has been resolved by our support team, please feel free to revisit and kindly click "Accept Answer," as this will be helpful to other community members facing similar issues.
