I have tried troubleshooting, restarting, updating, and scan for hardware changes. Nothing is working. The keyboard tab doesn’t even show up in the device manager menu (including when I click, show hidden devices). also its a hp laptop but idk if that matters

To recover your keyboard after accidentally uninstalling it, follow these steps:

    1. Physically Check the Connection: Ensure that your keyboard is properly connected to your computer. If it's a USB keyboard, try plugging it into a different USB port.
    2. Use Device Manager: Since you mentioned that the keyboard tab doesn’t show up in Device Manager, try the following:
      • Open Device Manager by pressing Windows + X and selecting Device Manager.
      • Click on View in the menu and select Show hidden devices to ensure all devices are visible.
      • If you see any entries under Keyboards, right-click on them and select Uninstall device. Then, restart your computer to allow Windows to reinstall the keyboard driver automatically.
    3. Scan for Hardware Changes: In Device Manager, click on Action and then select Scan for hardware changes to see if Windows can detect the keyboard.
    4. Check for Driver Updates: If the keyboard is still not showing, right-click on your computer name at the top of Device Manager and select Scan for hardware changes again. You can also check for driver updates by right-clicking on any device in Device Manager and selecting Update driver.
    5. Use an External Keyboard: If you have access to another keyboard (USB or Bluetooth), try connecting it to your computer. This can help you navigate and troubleshoot further.
    6. System Restore: If none of the above steps work, consider performing a system restore to a point before you uninstalled the keyboard driver. This will revert your system settings and drivers to a previous state.

If the keyboard still does not appear after these steps, there may be a deeper issue with the system or hardware that might require further investigation.

Hello levon kenney, thanks for posting this in our community. Since you've accidentally uninstalled the keyboard and it's no longer showing up in Device Manager, even with hidden devices enabled, here are a few steps you can try to get it working again.

To reinstall the keyboard driver manually, open Device Manager and go to the Action menu. If you see an option called "Add legacy hardware," click it. Choose to install the hardware manually from a list, then select Keyboards. From there, pick either "Standard PS/2 Keyboard" or "HID Keyboard Device" and proceed with the installation.

Lastly, Since you're using an HP laptop, it's also a good idea to install HP Support Assistant from HP’s official website. Once installed, run it to detect missing drivers and automatically reinstall the keyboard driver if needed.

    Hope this helps.
