Over the weekend my PC rebooted and after that outlook kept asking for a network password. I deleted my email and reinstalled it with the correct ports and security. Same issue with requesting a network password. I have 3 other desktops running the same windows 10 and office 7 with no issues.

    Hi @John Decker

Thank you for posting your question in the Q&A Forum.

I understand that Outlook has been repeatedly prompting for your network password since your PC rebooted. Since your other desktops are working fine, this issue appears to be specific to this machine’s cached settings or local configuration.

Please follow the detailed troubleshooting steps below:

    1. Clear saved password:

    • Go to Control Panel > Credential Manager > Windows Credentials
    • Look for any saved credentials related to your email address or Outlook/Microsoft Office
    • Remove these entries and restart Outlook. When prompted, re-enter your password and make sure to check "Remember password".

    2. Create a new Outlook profile:

    • Open Control Panel and search for "Mail"
    • Click on Mail (Microsoft Outlook).
    • In the Mail Setup window, click Show Profiles > Add. Name the new profile (e.g., "NewProfile").
    • Set up your email account using this new profile.
    • In the Mail dialog box, configure Outlook to always use the new profile when opening.

    3. Check Modern Authentication

This step forces newer versions of Outlook to use modern authentication protocols. If a key or folder does not exist, you must create it.

    • Press Win + R, type regedit, and open Registry Editor.

    Check/Create EnableADAL:

    • Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\<version>\Common\Identity

(Replace <version> with your Office version number. If you are unsure, check your version in Outlook: File > Office Account > About Outlook.)

    • Make sure the EnableADAL value (DWORD 32-bit) is set to 1
    • If the key does not exist: Right-click > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, name it EnableADAL, and set value = 1

    Check/Create AlwaysUseMSOAuthForAutoDiscover:

    • Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange
    • Add or check the DWORD AlwaysUseMSOAuthForAutoDiscover and set its value to 1
    • Exit Registry Editor and restart Outlook.

    4. Update Office:

    • Open Outlook > File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now.
    • Ensure your Office is up-to-date.

After performing all these steps, please restart your computer and check if Outlook still asks for your password.

If the problem continues, please reply with the exact version of your Outlook installation, and we can provide the next best guidance, which may involve an upgrade.
