How to access blocked files for Microsoft Access from BrightSpace, despite numerous suggested routes already failing?

I am trying to download and open some files for Microsoft Access via BrightSpace for schoolwork. I have tried using my system, as well as the school's remote desktop. However, in both cases, the files are blocked for security reasons. I have never had this issue with files from BrightSpace for my course before. I have tired various methods to open them. I listed the class BrightSpace page as a trusted source on my computer, but that didn't work. I also tried looking for the properties function on the Access versions both on my own system, and on the remote desktop to open it there, but I cannot find any function labeled "properties." What should I do?

    Hi @Ryan McDonald

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your Access file downloaded from BrightSpace is blocked for security reasons.

I know you’ve already listed the BrightSpace page as a trusted source, but could you please let me know if you’ve also added the local folder (where the Access file is saved on your computer) as a Trusted Location in Access?

If not, please try adding it by going to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Trusted Locations > Add new location, and then reopen the file to see if it helps.

If the issue persists, you might want to try the following steps to “Unblock” the file in Windows Properties:

-Make sure Access is completely closed.

-Right-click on the Access file you downloaded and select Properties.

    User's image

-In the General tab, look at the bottom. You should see a Security section > Check the "Unblock" box > Click Apply and then OK > Try opening the Access file again.

Please understand that our initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

I look forward to your response.
