Hello,

I have a question regarding Azure BCDR solutions and its support for AWS.

  1. Does Azure Backup with MARS (file/folder/system state)/MABS support AWS EC2? Can MABS be deployed on EC2 instance and backup those instances to RSV in Azure? Does Azure Backup support Amazon EVS VMs?
  2. Does Azure Site Recovery support AWS EC2/Amazon EVS?

Thank in advance for reply.

    Hi there Piotr Kwaśniewski

    Thanks for using QandA platform

Azure Backup doesn’t support AWS EC2 or EBS volumes natively. MARS/MABS are only supported on on-prem Windows servers or Azure VMs — you could install MABS/MARS on a Windows EC2 instance and back up files/folders to Azure, but that’s not an officially supported path for full VM-level backup or recovery, and it won’t protect EC2 like a native VM backup. Azure Backup also doesn’t support Amazon EBS snapshots or treating AWS VMs as first-class workloads.

For DR, Azure Site Recovery no longer supports replication from AWS to Azure — that capability was retired. So for AWS workloads, you'd need AWS-native backup/DR or a third-party cross-cloud tool.

If this helps kindly accept the answer thanks much.
