Does the black background feature only available for the Black theme?

The official Black theme is too dark for me. i prefer the Dark Gray, however, I sill need the black or gray background for the preview pane.

can we make it happen?

    I tested a lot in my environment (Outlook Version 2007 Build 13029.20308) and found that the black background feature is indeed only available for the Black theme. The black or gray background for the preview pane is not achievable in theme besides black theme so far.

    If you would still like the feature you mentioned, it is suggested for you to vote via Outlook UserVoice like what I have already did.
