can we increase the column width, if yes how. please guide me how to do?

We are using standard version.
As a workaround, please add below CSS code into content editor web part both in NewForm.aspx and EditForm.aspx to set a width style for all choice fields in your list form:

No, it not feasible for other columns.
"Select" is a special element used to create a drop-down list, so you can change the width of all choice columns that use the drop-down type.
Generally, when you use SharePoint default form, the column width will vary with the width of the value you fill in.
If you want to customize the column width, please customize the form in InfoPath.
In InfoPath, the size of the drop-down list box is 100% by default, and you just need to publish it to SharePoint without any changes.
After publishing, the list form will show as follows:

Please make sure you are using the Enterprise Edition of SharePoint, Forms Services only available in Enterprise Edition rather than Standard.
