DNS- Name servers - glue record

Hello,

I am preparing to demote a domain controller to a member server. I already added a third domain controller and confirmed it is synchronized with the primary DC. I wanted to ensure that the newly added domain controller would be the secondary default name server. I opened DNS on the primary domain controller, expanded Forward Lookup Zones and right clicked on my domain. I clicked on the Name Servers tab and saw the three domain controllers in the list. I proceeded to select the domain controller that I will be demoting soon and clicked to remove it. However, I was prompted with a message "Do you want to delete the glue record ServerName.Domain"

Only two options exist, Yes or No as I can't cancel out of this screen. Is it OK to delete the glue record now? The glue record is for the server that will be demoted as a domain controller. I didn't want to proceed in case this will cause an issue before I actually run DCPromo (It is a server 2008) to remove ADDS and demote the server to a member server.

Can someone confirm that it should be OK to select Yes, at the prompt to delete the glue record before I run DCPromo to demote the server? Or should I wait until the server is demoted before I click yes?

    Hello,

    Thanks. I had those instructions but they don't reference the glue record. The server had to be rebooted so I was able to proceed with the process using dcpromo.

    This is all set.

    Hi,

    In regards to your issue, according to the offical steps provided by microsoft, it is suggested that demoting the server from a DC to a memeber first and then select the record from the primary DNS server.
