Hi my client is running Sharepoint 2013 on-prem and due to some reason the search functionality is down for quite some time. I raised ticket for Microsoft support almost a month ago. Still the support team has not been able to resolve the issue. The index stays in degraded state. The support team has started to avoid my mails altogether as they have not be able to do something concrete about it and feel like they have almost given up. I can't believe that MS cannot rectify issue with their own product let alone a 3rd party product.
We can't answer this based off of the information you've provided. We'd need ULS logs, potentially Application Event Logs from the impacted server(s), etc.
Have you thought about introducing a new index component into the search topology and removing the old one? Have you contacted the engineer's manager (they should list it in their email signature)?

Since you already have a ticket raised to Microsoft, the issue is mostly technical tough and be difficult to handle from community part. We would suggest you continue following up with the support team.
