Is there any other error message?
Does this issue occur when opening Excel app or when opening Excel workbooks?
I would like to suggest you try the follow steps for a check.
- Enter "excel /safe" in Run dialog to start Excel in safe mode, it bypasses alternative startup location, changed toolbars, the xlstart folder, and Excel add-ins.
If the issue goes away in safe mode, go toC:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
andC:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16\XLStart
, check whether there is a file or a subfolder, if there is, please move it to other location.
Besides, go to File in Excel > Options > Add-ins > Manage Excel add-ins > Go > clear the check boxes for any enabled Excel Add-ins, select OK. - Go to File in Excel > Options > Add-ins > Manage COMl add-ins > Go > clear the check boxes for any enabled COM Add-ins, select OK.
If disabling the COM add-ins alleviates the issue, try enabling them one at a time to test for the problem add-in. - Check updates for Office.
- Repair Office.
- Disable Security Software for a check.
