O365 license plan change query

Hi,

We have recently assigned our users O365 A3 licenses and unassigned their current O365 A1 licenses. I'm wanting to know if the users be prompted to sign into the O365 apps on their computers after the next license check occurs?

What is the usual behavior of the O365 apps installed on computers when the license plan assigned to the user is changed?

Thank you

Well how did you license the apps previously, as A1 does not include the desktop apps? If you are using "traditional" licensing methods, everything stays the same.

    Hi AusA380,

We are mainly responsible for general issues of Office desktop applications, but your question is related to Microsoft 365 for admin.
Currently, Microsoft Q&A supports the products listed over here: supported topics (more to be added later on). Your question is not supported yet now.
Please contact support for business products - Admin Help. Thanks for your understanding.

As far as I know, Office 365 A1 has no Microsoft 365 desktop apps, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and etc. More detailed information, please refer to the below link.

So when your users need to activate these apps, they need to sign their accounts into these apps.

Microsoft 365 desktop apps are activated and kept activated automatically by cloud-based services associated with Microsoft 365. The Office Licensing Service, a part of Microsoft 365, keeps track of which users are licensed and how many computers they've installed Office on. When the license plan assigned to a user is changed, and there is no necessary license to use Microsoft 365 apps, then Microsoft 365 apps would go into reduced functionality mode.
