I am attempting to upgrade an existing MS Access 2010 application, but I get intermittent silent crashes, typically when opening or closing a screen form. The Application Event Viewer logs the following typical details:

Faulting application name: MSACCESS.EXE, version: 16.0.14701.20262, time stamp: 0x61ba8118
Faulting module name: MSACCESS.EXE, version: 16.0.14701.20262, time stamp: 0x61ba8118
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x005fb171
Faulting process id: 0x1d5c
Faulting application start time: 0x01d7fea26e761dd5
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Root\Office16\MSACCESS.EXE
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Root\Office16\MSACCESS.EXE
Report Id: 7b2797f7-c200-416b-817d-0fe8e7da4471
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:

I have tried both the 32-bit version of MS Office 2019 as well as the 64-bit version - same results.

I am testing in Windows 10 21H2, fully updated.

Any ideas?

Craig

The error code 0xc0000005 can lead to data loss, either directly or indirectly, if not solved quickly. The error can occur when you try to install Windows updates. However, worry not in case of data loss. Here are some repair methods.

    Check RAM:

Turn off the system and replace the RAM with other RAM. You may also swap RAM slots and then boot the system. Check if the error still persists, then move to the next method.

    Fix Registry:

    • Back up your current registry files before making any change. To fix the Windows registry, follow the steps given below:
    • Press ‘Windows + R’, type regedit, and hit ‘Enter’
    • Navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\AppInit_Dlls
    • Double click LoadAppInit_DLLs and modify the value from 1 to 0
    • Click ‘OK’ to confirm the changes
    • Close the Registry Editor Window and restart the system
    • Check if the error still pops up when you try to launch an application.

You can go through the below-mentioned thread by Microsoft to get rid of this error, maybe it could help:
