Windows Server 2008 R2 license

The physical key of one of our servers is xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx.

The tag is showing Windows Server C8 R2 Standard.

The server was bought quite recently and we suspect it has the Windows Server 2012 embedded in it.

Can you confirm this or otherwise?

Thanks

Godwin

Not recommended to post product keys publicly. A 2008 R2 license would not have another OS embedded in it. May need to contact the seller or microsoft for details or just try it.

Also note 2008 R2 is in extended support mode only.

    Hi,

There are GUI and CMD ways to know OS license status from Microsoft itself.

    1. Open Windows file explorer; paste 'Control Panel\System and Security\System' and form shows your system's basic information, at bottom you could see Windows license status.
    2. Open command prompt as administrator and type following command:
You can use “slmgr /dlv” or "slmgr/dli" command on your server. You can find the item “Partial Product Key” and compare it with the keys you have.

    Sample Syntax:
    slmgr.vbs /dlv

Hope above information can help you.
