When a user renames a section in OneNote, the name does not seem to persist a refresh. Only when the section is explicitly loaded/selected does the new, real section name display.
To reproduce (using Chrome on MacOS [shouldn't matter IMO]):
- In a OneNote document in Microsoft 365 (O365), create at least 2 sections; SECTION1 and SECTION2
- Rename SECTION1 to SECTIONX
- Click/select SECTION2
- Refresh/reload the web browser (should load SECTION2)
- Expected: should display the sections as 'SECTIONX' and 'SECTION2'
- Actual: sections shown as 'SECTION1' and 'SECTION2'
- Click/select SECTION1
- OneNote now shows the section as SECTIONX
Bonus Points: Try and reorder the sections and notice that's yet another issue -- sorting order is inconsistently lost as well -- but that's beyond the scope of this feedback, though perhaps related.
This tracks back to a long-running issue in OneNote. More details below via links to a few other reports, without resolution, while the problem exists today in Microsoft 365 (O365). The oldest report I found was from 2014, now 8 years later and the problem persists despite it being identified as a known issue by a OneNote Program Manager in July 2020.
