Converting from Basic Disk to Dynamic Disk Server 2008R2

I'm running out of room on my 2008R2 server (it will be upgraded soon). It has a Basic 2tb disk now. If I add another disk group and change them both to Dynamic I can safety expand the 2tb disk to whatever I disk I added? I just don't want to delete the current data.

    Changing a disk from basic to dynamic requires reformatting of the disk. Therefore, before you make the change you must backup the data on the disk if you wish to retain the data. After configuring the dynamic disk you can restore the data back to the disk.

    If you want to keep your data, you must first back it up or move it to another volume.
