ASR VSS Writer Failed Error Code

What exactly do the two error codes of VSS Writer failed mean? I can't find from documentation.

Hi @HH VSS writers failed"meaning" there is an issue with SQL VSS Writer of SQL 2008/2008R2 running on Windows 2008/2008R2. This causes app consistency recovery points to fail and SQL VSS writer getting into failed state.

Thanks for your reply. I have read this article before.
I actually have 6 VMs having similar error warning alerts.
4 of them are SQL VMs and I have installed the SQL Express shared components already, but the warning still appears. Can you confirm whether it requires a VM reboot after installing the SQL Express shared components to make it effectively?

Besides, 2 of the VMs are NOT SQL VM. They are just normal application VMs. What are the fixes or workarounds for them?

VSS writer System Writer failed with error 0x800423f2 during After DoSnapshotSet phase on the source machine."

@HH Thanks for getting back on my previous post.

1) For 4 VMs with SQL, you need to reboot the machines.
2) For 2 VMs without SQL, we may need to modify a reg key but that is something I don't recommend over a public forum. Because that can be done only by looking at the logs for each VM also might require platform level investigation. That being said, a technical support request would be required for further assistance on this.
