Mapped Network Drive Randomly Disconnects - Have to switch between Netbios name and FQDN to be able to connect to server

I have a user who has mapped drives to a share on a server. For some reason every couple of days her drives disconnect. Logging off and back on and restarting do not solve the connection issue. In fact we have to disconnect and re-map the drives to get her connected again. The weird thing to me though is that if the drives were mapped with the Server's Netbios name (i.e. \MyServer\Share) when they disconnected then the only way to be able to re-map the drive is to use the FQDN (i.e. \MyServer.MyDomain.com\Share) and vice versa. For some reason her computer stops being able to reach the server using whichever method was used recently. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,

In regards to your issue, here're my suggestions:

1.You can try to add DNS suffixes in your IP properties for your NIC. Add each of your DNS names in the list and it will automatically append them to the server name and attempt DNS resolution.

2.You can try to start the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service on both sides.
Right-click My Computer and press Manage >Expand Services and Applications.
