Windows 10 not shutting down HP Envy Laptop Model 13-aq0000na

Hi

New HP Envy laptop running Windows 10 fully up to date on patches is no longer shutting down just hangs on the “Shutting Down” splash screen. If I try restart same issues just hangs on restarting splash screen.

I cannot work out what process is stopping it from shutting down or restarting and Task Manager not giving any clues.

Check over MSCONFIG to see what is starting up and is perhaps causing the shutdown problem nothing obvious.

Disabled Fast Start Up as this was suggested but to no avail.

Any thoughts

    Hi Sean,

    If we want to check startup items, MSCONFIG doesn’t work now, just open Task Manager and move to Startup tab, then you could disable necessary or unknown startup items here.
    I my opinion, you could execute a repair upgrade, this way can fix system components issue. Use media creation tool to download the latest 2004 iso, then mount iso to in-upgrade current system.

    Hello,

    Try shutting down using Shut down dialog, press Alt+F4 keys to get this.
