Spectre Meltdown microcode question for VM guests

Hi All
Question about microcode update for Vmware environment.
I understand that the physical vmware host server needs the microcode update.
But, does the guest servers also need the microcode update too?

As for microcode updates made available on WSUS... do the detection rule work correctly that, correct microcode updates will be made as required for certain servers? Will the detection pick up the correct VM guest servers too?

And finally, i dont seem to see any September 2020 microcode updates in WSUS. I see the older ones in there, but they have been declined as they have been expired.
