Whew!
By Gary Bouton
It’s a simple idea; the hardest part was getting the scoops of ice cream to look appetizing. There are three basic models for the scoops of ice cream—I changed colors of duplicates to come up with all the flavors you see here. I used gradients with varying opacity and some selective Gaussian blur to make certain areas soft (even though it’s not soft ice cream). Full disclosure time: I modeled the ice cream cone and the scooper in Cinema 4D, did a render and then traced over the renders in Expression Design. I recommend tracing; it’s not cheating if the images are your own, and an illustrated piece lends a humanity and appeal that often modeling an object doesn’t achieve.
