Got Tetris?

I just wanted to take a quick break from threat modeling to point to a video that Valorie passed on to me that's nothing short of remarkable (from the blog of one of my favorite magazines, Mental Floss):

Advanced Tetris Gameplay:

The magic happens about 3 minutes into the video, when the game speed kicks up from Unbelievable to Utterly Insane.

 

And then, once the player's beat Utterly Insane mode, the blocks become invisible.  And the player STILL manages to beat the game.

Wow.

    It gets worse. Start reading about Wall Kickback, the controversial Super Rotation System and the Back-To-Back T-Spin Triples that earn you more than Tetrises do, and you realise Tetris has a whole lot more depth than you ever thought possible. Then go play Tetrinet and get thoroughly beaten.

    I've seen that video some time before, and although he is better at Tetris than I could ever be in a million years, he wouldn't have been able to replicate this on the Gameboy (which is the only Tetris I've ever played). The reason: this game lets you see the next three blocks; the Gameboy version only gives you one. Also he appears to have the ability to hold a block until he needs it; this is why he always has a straight block when he needs it. The Gameboy does not allow this. Still, very, very, very impressive.

    Oh wow, and I thought my best play was impressive! http://ccgi.gdward.plus.com/cgi-bin/tetris/index.php?replay=5031 Admitably, the physics are tighter in this version, but the speed gets no where NEAR the level he reaches.
