Lync 2013 reaches RTM!

We wanted to let all of our blog readers know that the engineering team has signed off on the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) build of Lync 2013, as-of today, October 11th, 2012! General availability is planned for the first quarter of 2013. Starting October 19, any customer purchasing Office 2010 in retail will receive the new Office for free upon availability. Customers will see a preview version of the new Office on Windows RT devices, beginning with the Windows 8 launch on October 26.

We hope you'll love the new version of Lync as much as we loved building it!

-The Lync Team

@pesos: Lync Server 2010 CU7 (recently released update) will be required for the Lync Server 2010 to Lync Server 2013 migration - so no need to wait

w00t!  Will we be able to migrate from Lync 2010 to Lync 2013 once the code is available for download in November?  The Exchange team announced the troubling fact that ex2010 sp3 (required for migration to 2013) won't drop until "first half" of 2013.  Hope there is no such delay in store for Lync 2010-2013 migrations?

If a customer purchases Lync Server 2010 between now and when 2013 is generally available, will they be entitled to upgrade to 2013 without needing to purchase Software Assurance?

The Lync Windows Store app (for Windows 8) is a work in progress; we are continuing to make improvements.  We are also adding to our documentation to answer some questions we are getting.  Look here to get to the FAQ and other information: office.microsoft.com/.../home We’ve gotten requests around the ability to select audio devices and we are looking into it for a future release.  At this time, the audio device needs to be configured through the Windows settings, and the audio device needs to be set as the “Default Communications Device” (both for playback and recording in the Windows OS).  We are working with the Windows team to get access to all of the controls we need to light up these features. We have heard the feedback about the Back button.  We are actively working on adding a Back button, making it easier to search for contacts, as well as other improvements to the experience. Thanks for using the Lync Windows Store app!

Any news on GA for 2013, or was it already?  If so when was it.  Any data on early adoptions of it for large corp customers.
