My Day Job: VMs 4 Learning

I live in a world of virtualization and everyday I fall deeper into the rabbit hole...

When fellow Softies ask me what I do, I reply back, " I work in Microsoft Learning which is part of DPE." And if that generates a puzzeled look, I tell them that, "I manage a product which uses Virtual Machines, VMs, to train IT Pros and Developers on Microsoft Technology." From a learning perspective, these VMs when added to a set of tasks a user could complete to learn skills equals what is called a lab. My job entails plotting strategy for the labs and the parts that compile them. That's my day job, but due to the complexities of a VM, it isn't a walk in the park, but I love it.

Before, I go on about the joys of product managing a virtual product, I wanted to share about me. I'm a Californian transplant to Bellevue, WA and I'm style acclimating to the lack of sun. (I look way too pale when I go back to Cali.) Avid sports fan, gamer, and all those other things that it seems bloggers like to to do.

Having gotten that out of the way,"Why did I create this blog?" Simply, I created this blog to share my vision for the role of VMs in training and cool things that I'm involved in launching. My product is consumed by millions of individuals globally, which is so cool! I simply want to ensure that there is an opportunity for me to share thoughts, which are of my own and do not represent any official Microsoft policy/strategies.

And with that, I have to sneak off to a meeting to help ensure that at the end of the day, my product, the labs, are helping users learn, and hopefully love, MS Technnologies.

Cheers!

Hi Dan, Thanks for the post - good to know more about you. DO you have a link to a VM-lab product I can try? Mike
