Test Lab Guide Mini-Module:Installing Forefront Unified Access Gateway (UAG) 2010 on EDGE1

This Test Lab Guide Mini-Module describes how to install Forefront Unified Access Gateway (UAG) 2010 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) on the EDGE1 computer. The result is that EDGE1 can be used as a remote access server, a DirectAccess server, or a reverse proxy for the Corpnet subnet.

First, at a minimum, you create the Base Configuration test lab with both the Corpnet and Internet subnets.

Next, you install Forefront UAG on EDGE1.

  1. Log on to EDGE1 with the CORP\User1 account.
  2. To obtain the Forefront UAG with SP1 Trial Version from the Microsoft Download Center, connect the Corpnet connection of the EDGE1 computer to a network that has Internet access and configure the TCP/IP protocol on the Corpnet connection as needed. For example, if the network that has access to the Internet uses DHCP, configure the Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) component from the properties of the Corpnet in the Network Connections folder to use automatic addressing and to automatically configure a DNS server.
  3. Create the C:\UAG_DL folder.
  4. From http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16811, download the Forefront UAG 2010 with SP1 Evaluation Version file (UAG2010_WSP1_EVAL.iso) to the C:\UAG_DL folder on EDGE1.
  5. From the C:\UAG_DL folder, use the ISO file in the following ways to start Forefront UAG setup:
    • Extract the files within the .iso file to the C:\UAG_DL folder using an ISO extractor program, and then run Setup.hta from the C:\UAG_DL folder.
    • Burn the .iso file to a DVD, and then run Setup.hta or Autorun.inf.
    • Join the .iso file to a Hyper-V server as media, and then run Setup.hta.
  6. In the Forefront Unified Access Gateway splash screen, click Install Forefront UAG.
  7. On the Welcome page of the Forefront UAG Setup Wizard, click Next.
  8. On the License Terms page, click I accept the License Terms for Microsoft Software, and then click Next.
  9. On the Select Installation Location page, click Next. Wait while Forefront UAG 2010 with SP1 installs.
  10. On the Setup Wizard Completed page, click Finish to restart the computer.
  11. Log on to EDGE1 with the CORP\User1 account.
  12. Connect the Corpnet connection of EDGE1 to the Corpnet subnet and configure the TCP/IP protocol on the Local Area Connection as needed. For example, configure the Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) component from the properties of the Corpnet connection in the Network Connections folder to use the address 10.0.0.2 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and the preferred DNS server of 10.0.0.1.
  13. Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Forefront UAG, and then click Forefront UAG Management. Wait while Forefront UAG configures itself for the first time.
  14. On the Welcome page of the Getting Started Wizard, click Configure Network Settings.
  15. On the Welcome to the Network Configuration Wizard page, click Next.
  16. On the Define Network Adapters page, select Corpnet in the Internal column, select Internet in the External column, and then click Next.
  17. On the Define Internal Network IP Address Range page, verify that the range that appears is 10.0.0.0 to 10.0.0.255, and then click Next.
  18. On the Completing the Network Configuration Wizard page, click Finish.
  19. On the Getting Started Wizard, click Define Server Topology.
  20. On the Welcome to the Server Management Wizard page, click Next.
  21. On the Select Configuration page, select Single server, and then click Next.
  22. On the Completing the Server Management Wizard page, click Finish.
  23. In the Getting Started Wizard, click Join Microsoft Update.
  24. On the Welcome to the Server Configuration Wizard page, click Next.
  25. On the Use Microsoft Update for Forefront UAG page, select I don’t want to use Microsoft Update, and then click Next.
  26. On the Customer Experience Improvement Program page, select No, I do not want to participate and click Next.
  27. On the Completing the Server Configuration Wizard page, click Finish.
  28. On the Getting Started Wizard page, click Close.
  29. In the Getting Started Wizard dialog box, when prompted Do you want to activate the configuration now, click Yes.
  30. On the Activate Configuration page, type a password and confirm the password for the backup file that will save the current UAG configuration. Click Next.
  31. On the Activate Configuration page, confirm that there is a checkmark in the Back up configuration before performing this activation checkbox, then click Activate.
  32. Wait for the Activation completed successfully message, and then click Finish.

This completes the installation of Forefront UAG 2010 with SP1 on EDGE1. Additional TLGs can use this new configuration as a starting point for scenarios in which EDGE1 acts as a remote access server, a DirectAccess server, or a reverse proxy.

If you are running this test lab in a virtual environment, you can create a snapshot of the EDGE1 virtual machine (VM) to save this configuration.
