Troubleshooting FIM2010 SSPR: Error 3000 - Access Denied

Problem Statement

Attempting to reset a password prompts the user with an error message.


Error message / Fim Service Event log

System.Management: System.Management.ManagementException: Access denied
at System.Management.ManagementException.ThrowWithExtendedInfo(ManagementStatus errorCode)
at System.Management.ManagementObjectCollection.ManagementObjectEnumerator.MoveNext()
at Microsoft.ResourceManagement.PasswordReset.ResetPassword.ResetPasswordHelper(String domainName, String userName, String newPasswordText)


Cause

  • The Synchronization Service Security Groups that the Synchronization Service was using, were incorrect. Not setup correctly.

Resolution

  • Execute a Change Install of the Synchronization Service to reference the correct Synchronization Service Security Groups
  • Installed Network Monitor which installed another network driver to fix a Virtual NIC issue.
